In  2015 I was encouraged in to trying a triathlon by a bunch of lovely people I was cycling and running with in a triathlon club just for fitness. I’ll never forget that day getting out of the water and on to the bike, the feeling of achievement. I think I danced part of the run I was so happy I was doing it. That was it, I did 9 triathlons that year I loved it so much and I haven’t stopped. I’m passionate about triathlon for many reasons, one of the most important being that you will see every ability and age in a triathlon club and the support shown to each other is just wonderful to see. I’ve learned a lot through the years in the sport and am still learning but it is a joy to be able to share that with club mates old and new. I have met some of the most inspiring, supportive and all round amazing people through triathlon and I hope I’ll be still taking part for many years to come.

Hi all, Hailing from Munster I’ve always had a keen interest in all sports. My background is in GAA and soccer. After years of not doing much I decided to do a charity 5km run with Lara a couple of years ago and somehow that led to me joining the club (after a few glasses of wine Christmas 2020) and giving triathlon a go. The open water was a hurdle to me but with lots of support from fellow members, especially Mary I gradually gained the confidence I needed. I completed first triathlon in September 2021. A phenomenal feeling crossing the finish line, and from there I was hooked. I have a few big races coming up this year so having the support and guidance from other club members is a invaluable to helping me with my training. Contact me if you have any questions or need any advice.

Hi there, I’m Nicky. I joined the club in 2020 and this is my first year on the committee. I enjoy all three disciplines and especially value the social aspect the club has brought to my exercise and sport. As women’s officer I hope to be able to promote women in sport and be a go to person if anyone needs some help, from either women in the club or the great women behind the men. I look forward to what the club will achieve in 2023!

Hi, my name is Andrea. I joined Carlow Triathlon club in the midst of the pandemic. Whilst I never thought I’d actually do a triathlon I liked the club ethos and that anyone can do one. It was a really great effort from the club keeping everyone involved during covid and the lockdowns and I really enjoyed the weekly themes and prizes where we had to get out and about in our zones and post about what we got up to. Dressing my bike up for Easter still makes me laugh and the baywatch themed effort. Those first nights in the river barrow at Bagnelstown were awful and really made me question my sanity (which I still do regularly thanks to some of the things I’ve landed myself into thanks to this club) but I thought I’d never be able to swim any distance but having other members alongside in the same position and others cheering us on and buddying. We had many trips to the sea aswell and all were very enjoyable. I always ran and biked over the years but I do think I’m becoming a fan of swimming. My biggest disappointment was the swim being cancelled at hook or by crook  last year … but at that stage it didn’t matter because I was well “hooked”  and thanks to the clubs new to tri programme and the club triathlons all aspects are covered with trying out a triathlon any distance without having to sign up for a competitive one. So 2023 is a few weeks old and I’m on the committee let’s see what we get up to triathlon wise.
